JOHN DAY, OR — Firefighters continue to battle the South Fork Complex burning 20 miles southwest of John Day. The lightning-sparked fires have burned 62,476 acres of timber and grass. As of Sunday evening, crews have the two fires, the Murderers Creek and Buck Fork fires, 30% contained.
Crews spent much of the weekend working on containment lines with heavy reliance on aviation resources. With the likelihood of thunderstorms rolling across the area this weekend, firefighters are bracing for the South Fork fires to spread, and the possibility of new wildfire starts.
