Bend PD To Focus On Pedestrian Safety

Bend Police STOCK.3.001BEND, OR — Bend Police officers will be at NW Riverside Blvd. and NW Kansas Ave. Tuesday making sure pedestrians are safe.  The emphasis will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  The intent of the Pedestrian Safety Operation is to educate motorists and pedestrians on laws related to sharing the roadway.

Under state law, motorists must give pedestrians the right of way:

  • Within a crosswalk
  • In the lane in which the driver’s vehicle is traveling
  • In the lane adjacent to the lane in which the driver’s vehicle is traveling

Bend PD added it is the responsibility of pedestrians to make sure the roadway is safe to cross prior to walking on the roadway.
