Preliminary Report Released on Downing of Flight MH 17

iStock Editorial/Thinkstock(THE HAGUE, Netherlands) — Dutch authorities on Tuesday released their preliminary report on the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 17.

While investigators did not specifically say the Boeing 777 was shot down by a missile, the report stated, “The damage observed in the forward section of the aircraft appears to indicate that the aircraft was penetrated by a large number of high-energy objects from outside the aircraft.”

“It is likely that this damage resulted in a loss of structural integrity of the aircraft, leading to an in-flight break up,” it continued.

The report also made no mention of who might have been behind the downing.

Flight MH 17 went down over eastern Ukraine on July 17, killing 298 passengers and crew members on board.
