Redmond firefighters rescued a wheelchair-bound elderly man.

Firefighters say the man’s mattress caught fire Saturday while he was smoking in bed in his 30th Street home.

Neither the man nor the other people who lived in the home were hurt and crews kept the damage to less than a thousand dollars.
