Police say a Klamath Falls man was drunk when he crashed at La Pine State Park and started a fire.

The wreck closed the entrance to the park on Wednesday.

Deputies say Michael Meeker’s SUV slammed through a guardrail and plummeted down to a dry portion of the Deschutes Riverbed under the bridge at the park before bursting into flames, which spread and caused a small wildfire.

The wreck damaged a walkway and the bridge, but engineers say it can remain open.

Meeker wasn’t hurt.
