'Black Panther' named best film by African American Film Critics Association

Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — Marvel’s blockbuster film Black Panther is the big winner at this year’s African American Film Critics Association Awards: It scored a total of three wins, including Best Film and Best Director for Ryan Coogler. 

The Spike Lee-directed film, BlacKkKlansman, nabbed Best Screenplay, with its star, John David Washington, winning the Best Actor award for his performance. The AAFCA voted Regina Hall as Best Actress for her role in Support the Girls, while Regina King received Best Supporting Actress for If Beale Street Could Talk.

The BLM-inspired film The Hate U Give also received a couple of mentions, with Russell Hornsby winning Best Supporting Actor and Amandla Stenberg for Best Breakout Performance.

The organization also revealed its top ten films of 2018, which include Black Panther, Quincy, Blindspotting and Sorry to Bother You.
