Shantel Witt trial is set to begin Tuesday morning (Jan. 29, 2019) inside the Deschutes County Circuit Court, in downtown Bend.
On Monday, the judge in the case rejected a defense motion to delay Tuesday’s start of the trial for Witt, the Bend woman facing manslaughter and DUII charges, in a December 2017 crash, east of Bend that killed cyclist and local dentist Marika Stone.
The defense requested the new trial because a third drug bottle was found in Witt’s car.
Attorney’s said It was a prescription for Xanax, used to treat anxiety, but was prescribed to Witt’s dog by a veterinarian.
However the judge did not accept that new evidence.
The trial is expected to take at least eight days.
