On April 10th, 2019 at around 2:27 PM, Bend Police Officers were dispatched to reports of a hit and run crash on SW Wilson Ave just east of SW Bond St. Multiple callers reported a red truck rear-ending a blue Honda CRV and fleeing the scene.
While Officers responded, additional calls came in to 9-1-1 Dispatch. It was learned a second hit and run crash had occurred on SW Upper Terrace Dr near SW Bond St with a similar suspect vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was located on SW Scalehouse Loop where it had gone off the road and through a fence into construction equipment. The driver fled the scene on foot. While fleeing from the scene, the suspect unlawfully entered two other vehicles in an attempt to hide from officers before stealing a bicycle and using it in his attempt to escape. The suspect was arrested a short time later and identified as Darren Robert Graybehl.
Graybehl was arrested for the below listed charges and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail. Nobody was seriously hurt in any of the crashes.
