Used Fireworks Start Home Fire in Bend

bend-fire-7-5-19

Bend Fire Department responded to a reported carport fire in the Country Sunset Mobile Home Park on SE 27 th St early this morning. The fire was spreading to the adjacent home when fire crews arrived. The fire did extension damage to the home and carport before being extinguished. All five family members escaped the home. The home is considered a complete loss. Redmond
Fire Department sent a fire engine to assist and Alfalfa Fire District sent a water tender. Red Cross will be providing the family with assistance until their home owners insurance provider can be contacted.
The fire was caused by improper disposal of legal fireworks after their use. The fireworks were placed into a cardboard box and place in the carport. The fire was noticed a few hours later. Bend Fire Department reminds everyone that used fireworks need to be properly cooled before being disposed of. The best method is to place the used fireworks into a bucket of water and allow to soak at least 24 hours before placing into any container or garbage container.
