ORE22, Idanha) – The highway is closed. OR 22 will remain closed until at least Friday. Use alternate routes. OR 22 will be closed to thru traffic from just west of Idanha to the junction with U.S. 20 (milepost 53-81) until at least Friday.
Tuesday morning, ODOT was able to assess the damage and determined that it will take several days to remove contaminated soil and repair the road where a double tanker crashed Sunday morning spilling thousands of gallons of fuel. An area of roadway about 600 feet long needs to be completely excavated and rebuilt.
U.S. 20 is an alternate route for small vehicle traffic between the Willamette Valley and Central Oregon. Motor Carriers have several alternative approved routes for detours while OR 22 is closed: OR 126 McKenzie Highway through Springfield to and from Central Oregon; OR 58 Willamette Highway and U.S. 26. U.S. 20 between Sweet Home and the OR 126 junction is NOT the approved detour due to length restrictions.
