On Sunday, February 23, 2020, at approximately 1408 hours, the Crook County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a structure fire on a ranch in the Post, Oregon area.
When deputies arrived on scene they found a residence that was on fire. The owner and workers of the ranch were diligently working trying to get some of the personal belongings out of the residence before the entire residence was engulfed in flames.
The investigation revealed that the fire more than likely started in the solar electrical box that was located inside of the garage of the residence. Members of the Sheriff’s Office called for BLM firefighters to respond in the event that the fire spread and became a wildland fire.
The residence was outside of the Crook County Fire District and local firefighters are not able to respond because of the established fire districts.
Members of the community also responded with their own fire trucks and attempted to put the fire out. The residence was a total loss.
There will not be any criminal charges as a result of this investigation.
