Dog Wakes Resident From Burning Home

A two-story log home in Crooked River Ranch was destroyed by fire Monday, but thankfully the lone occupant escaped thanks to a barking dog. Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue crews were called at 2:06 a.m. to 12292 SW Lords Place they found the two story log home fully involved in fire with fire spreading to a neighboring fence. A defensive fire attack was performed to protect exposures which included the neighbors fence, multiple vehicles, and a shop. Water tenders were used to supply water for fighting the fire. Multiple crews remained on-scene for several hours performing overhaul and mop-up.

The only resident at home when the fire occurred was awoken by one of her three dogs. She was able to escape the fire unharmed with her three dogs but several cats are unaccounted for. It is unknown if the smoke alarms in the home were functioning properly. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents.

The home is considered a total loss with an estimated value of $207,560. A value has not been determined at this time for the contents of the structure. the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a home fire,” according to Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue. “It is recommended that: smoke alarms be tested periodically, replace batteries twice a year, install smoke alarms on every level of the home, and replace smoke alarms that are over 10 years.”
