Deschutes County District Attorney’s office released additional information regarding the murder arrest of a Bend man. According to the news release: On June 7, 2022, 53-year-old Glen Allan Ely was found deceased in his apartment located at 2027 NE Daggett Lane in Bend. He was found by firefighters who entered his apartment to fight a fire.
At the same time firefighters were inside Ely’s apartment, Bend Police Officers were outside on the street a few blocks away from the apartment. Officers were talking with Thomas Craig, a 35-year-old Bend resident. Officers were talking with Craig because residents in the neighborhood had called the police to report Craig’s suspicious actions.
Based on stab wounds on Ely’s body, based on forensic evidence gathered from Craig, and based on other evidence, the police arrested Craig for the murder of Ely.
At the time of the murder, Craig was a houseguest of Ely’s. The nature of the relationship between Craig and Ely is unknown at this time.
Craig’s next court hearing is June 15, 2022 at 1:30pm.
Statement from District Attorney Hummel:
“I commend Mr. Ely’s neighbors for promptly calling the police when they were concerned about Mr. Craig’s unusual activities. The quick calls from neighbors coupled with Bend Fire and Bend Police’s speedy response to the scene, were the keys to solving this case.”
