Plane Crash Reported West of Bend

On Tuesday, August 4, at 6:46 p.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a plane crash west of Bend.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, died upon high‑speed impact with the ground. No other injuries or deaths occurred, and the crash did not result in a fire.

Final Update on Akawa Butte Fire Operations: Today, ground crews made significant progress, increasing containment to 98%. Crews began grading Wilt Road from the north end, prioritizing suppression repair due to heavy use during firefighting operations. This work
