Officials: Deception Creek Fire Holding Steady

OAKRIDGE, OR — Officials report that the Deception Creek Fire burning near Oakridge has stayed within established control lines and continues to burn in islands of vegetation.

Officials say that was the cause of Wednesday’s heavy smoke nearby and dispersed smoke elsewhere.

Yesterday morning, light rain started to fall over the fire.

The Deception Creek Fire continues to be managed under a full suppression strategy which is designed to keep the fire size as small as possible while maintaining public and firefighter safety, and protecting natural resources.

No helicopters were needed yesterday due to minimal fire activity. Most heavy equipment is being used in mop-up activities.

600 firefighters are assigned to that blaze, with the help of helicopters, engines, dozers, and water tenders.
