NASA: Large Asteroid to Pass Near Earth Next Week

The asteroid, known as 2004 BL86, is expected to pass us on Monday. It will not get that close to Earth again for at least 200 years, Don Yeomans, manager of NASA’s Near Earth Object Program Office, said. “While it poses no threat to Earth for the foreseeable future, it’s a relatively close approach by a relatively large asteroid.”

NASA doesn’t know very much about the asteroid, which was discovered by a telescope at the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research survey in White Sands, New Mexico.
