Seau, Bettis Two of Eight Elected to Hall-of-Fame

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(PHOENIX) — Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis headlined a class of eight people that were elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday.

Former Oakland Raiders reciever Tim Brown, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Haley, Kansas City Chiefs guard Will Shields, Minnesota Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Polian and longtime NFL executive Ron Wolf round out the 2015 enshrinees that were selected by the Hall’s board of selectors.

To be elected into the Hall of Fame you must receive 80% of the vote from the 46 selectors.

Seau, who tragically committed suicide in 2012, played 13 NFL seasons with the Chargers, three with the Miami Dolphins, and four with the New England Patriots. He won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1992 and was an eight-time first-team All-Pro.

Bettis finished his career with 13,662 rushing yards, which is the fifth most in NFL history.

Brown is fifth all-time in catches (1,094) and sixth all-time in receiving yards (14,934).

Haley won five Super Bowl rings as a member of the 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.

Shields never missed a game during his 14 seasons with the Chiefs.

Everyone elected will be formally enshrined into the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in August.
