Bunker Hill Complex Update

Lemolo Lake Resort and the Forest Service Campgrounds at Poole Creek and East Lemolo remain open. Bunker Hill, Inlet, and Crystal Springs Campgrounds are closed to protect public safety.

Diamond Lake, Ore. -The Bunker Hill Complex is located 15 miles north of Diamond Lake, in Southern Oregon. The fire complex resulted from lightning activity on June 26th and consists of one larger fire called the Bunker Hill Fire and six small fires ranging from 1/10th to 9 acres, all burning within the Umpqua National Forest.

Operations –Firefighters began the burnout operations on the west flank of the Bunker Hill Fire yesterday. Because of the favorable weather conditions and strategic planned operations, the crews took the time and care that resulted in a low to moderate intensity fire.

Fire is being kept on the ground, reducing the fuel load to lessen the risk of intense wildfire. Burnout operation will continue today and mop up will continue on the eastern portion of the fire.

Weather and Fire Behavior – The forecast calls for increasing warmer and dryer conditions. Significant warming begins Wednesday and continues into the week. Today’s weather and fuel conditions will provide for active fire behavior potential within the area of the complex.
