Bend, Ore. -A fire broke out in a garage at 60808 Targhee just after noon today, and the Bend Fire Department was able to stop it before it entered the living quarters.
However, the fire extend into the attic, resulting in destruction of the roof. The first engine company arrived within 7 minutes of the initial call to 911 and encountered the garage well involved and a large Ponderosa Pine burning in the front yard.
Because the roof is so unstable, the fire cause investigation is proceeding slowly, in the interests of safety.
Earlier Bend Fire Dave Howe Battalion Chief Dave Howe said “there is also some brush involved, and USFS and ODF crews are assisting with that.We ask that people do not come into the area, as it is an active and ongoing operation”.
