(NEW YORK) — In American Ultra, Kristin Stewart portrays the onscreen girlfriend of Jesse Eisenberg, who plays an unmotivated stoner named Mike — who, unbeknownst to either of them, has secret skills.
“The CIA is trying to kill us and he’s all of a sudden this very unlikely, but very capable CIA sleeper agent, who’s like a violent murderer,” Stewart explained on Monday’s Live with Kelly and Michael.
And although their lives get turned upside down trying to escape the CIA’s wrath, Stewart said her character just wants “to get married!”
The action-comedy could be interpreted as “the dream of a stoner,” Stewart added. “Like, it could be like some thought, or like the musings of like a ridiculous paranoid, artistic stoner, being like, ‘I feel like the CIA is watching us.'”
It’s not the first time Stewart has starred opposite Eisenberg — the pair also starred in 2009’sAdventureland. The actress said she loved teaming up with Eisenberg again in American Ultra. “He’s so hyper-intelligent and like awesome and we’re both kind of weirdos,” she gushed. “…And he’s just awesome!”
American Ultra, also starring Connie Britton, Topher Grace and John Leguizamo, is out Friday.
