Bend, Ore. – The Bend Fire Department says a backyard BBQ sparked a house fire on NW Delaware Ave that caused about $45,000 in damage.

The fire was reported around 1 a.m. today and Bend Fire crews were able to quickly get the upper hand on the fire.

The owner awoke to the smell of smoke and the smoke alarm sounding. She quickly evacuated with her two 11 and 12 year old boys.

The Bend Fire Department says a BBQ on the back porch had been left on and the radiant heat had ignited the outside siding of the home.
