Bend, Ore.- In a surprise assembly this morning a Juniper Elementary teacher was named the teacher of the year for the state.

Not even the principal of the school knew about the surprise.

Fourth grade teacher Heather Anderson was named the Oregon Teacher of the Year for 2016.

The wildcats let out a big cheer when the Oregon Department of Education Deputy Superintendent Salam Noor made the announcement.
