Sunriver, Ore. – A maintenance worker at Sunriver’s Meadow Golf Course was cited for animal abuse and other charges after firing a pellet rifle at a family of geese, wounding one gosling and killing another.
According to Sunriver Police Chief Marc Mills officers were able to transport one injured gosling to the High Desert Wildlife rescue, where it is recovering from its injuries. One gosling was found deceased at the location, and was later turned over to Police for evidentiary purposes.
After investigation, Sunriver Police cited Joseph N. Seevers, 39, of Bend, in lieu of custody for two counts of animal abuse and two counts of the unlawful taking of a a game animal. Seevers was released to appear at the Deschutes County Court, and his single shot air rifle was confiscated for evidence.
It was later determined that Sunriver Lodge Resort management had no knowledge of Seevers actions. Sunriver Police worked in cooperation with the Oregon State Police during this incident.
At last sighting, the two adult geese were attending the remaining gosling. It is hoped that the injured gosling will be returned to its family after recovering from its injuries.
