Portland, Ore. – It was a very close call for Ollie the Collie.
Just moments from being put down because he was paralyzed, an intern saved his life.
Ollie had been suffering from the sudden onset of paralysis.
The veterinarian treating him couldn’t find a definitive cause, so the family had decided to put him down.
As preparations were being made to euthanize him, a veterinary intern saw a tick lodged behind Ollie’s ear, and decided to check further.
A tick was removed and about ten hours later… Ollie was back to normal, except for his unflattering shaved haircut.
Paralysis from ticks is pretty rare, say veterinarians, but Ollie’s owners said they won’t risk it again and will keep him on tick and flea medication.
