ABC/Ida Mae AstuteThe hilarious Amy Schumer stopped by Good Morning America Tuesday to plug her new book, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, which Schumer said was culled from her past. “I’ve been keeping journals from age 13 to 23 and so it was really kind of crazy to go back and read them,” she told Robin Roberts. “It was a little painful because it’s embarrassing to read your thoughts as a teenager, but it was a total labor of love.”
Schumer also explained how she got Goldie Hawn to play her mom in a just-wrapped movie: “I just kept annoying her.”
“About two years ago, I ran into her on a plane and at the end of the flight I went over and I said, ‘I love you and I’m a comedian, an actor and I really want to make this movie with you,'” Schumer recalled. “And she’s like, ‘OK honey.’ You know, she’s so sweet. She’ll talk to anyone for, like, two hours.”
Schumer said Hawn later told her, “‘I haven’t done a movie in 14 years.’ and I’m like, ‘This is the movie to do,’ and we just had the best time.”
Schumer recently earned six Emmy nominations for both her show Inside Amy Schumer and her Chris Rock-directed HBO stand-up special. She’s not getting her hopes up, however.
“We were both so excited and then, I look at who else is nominated — Beyonce for Lemonade. There’s no way…I’m not writing a speech.”
Schumer’s book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, is out today.
