Volunteer Basketball Coaches Needed

Bend, Ore. – Bend Park and Recreation District is seeking adult volunteers to coach teams for the 2016 middle school boys’ basketball league. Coaches are needed now for teams at Cascade, Skyview, High Desert and La Pine middle schools.

Basketball experience is preferred but not required. Training and on-going support is provided to volunteer coaches.

The basketball season is Nov. 1 to mid-December. Coaches volunteer approximately five hours per week with practices and games held at area schools on mid-week evenings.

“Volunteers must enjoy working with youth and be able to create a positive, encouraging recreational environment for all players,” said Greg Brady, sports program coordinator. “Volunteer coaches are an essential part of the program, providing support with program logistics, coaching and mentoring youth.”

Pre-season coaches training is Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. All volunteer adult coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.

The online volunteer application and background check available at http://www.bendparksandrec.org/volunteers/volunteer-application/.
