Bend, Ore. – Bend Police apprehended and arrested two men while waiting to board a train at Chemult Tuesday night, accused of assaulting and critically injuring a Bend man inside the Hong Kong Restaurant & Bamboo Room, a southeast Bend bar Sunday evening, according to police.
Paul Thompson, was unconscious and bleeding with an apparent head injury. Arriving officers learned from witnesses that two suspects had fled prior to police arrival. One of the suspects was identified by bar employees as Earl William Shone Jr. The second suspect was later identified by investigators as Jason LaPollo. The investigation revealed that Shone Jr. and LaPollo violently assaulted Thompson causing a substantial head injury. Thompson remains in Critical Care at St. Charles Medical Center following brain surgery.
On Tuesday, Bend Police Detectives received information that LaPollo and Shone Jr. were attempting to leave the Central Oregon area via a Chemult outbound train. Bend PD Detectives responded to Chemult with assistance from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police. Shone Jr. and LaPollo were located and arrested.
The pending charge for both suspects is assault in the second degree. They’ll be arraigned next week.
