UPDATE: Man held in connection with disappearance of Bend woman is dead

The man being held in connection with the disappearance of a Bend woman is dead.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office says Bryan Penner likely killed himself.

He died this (Mon) morning at the the hospital.

A fellow inmate discovered Penner last (Sun) night.

Jail personnel and Bend Fire E-M-Ts were able to keep him alive long enough to get him to the hospital.

Police arrested Penner after Sara Gomez was reported missing last month.

County District Attorney John Hummel says the search is now for her body, which became more difficult with Penner’s death.
