BEND, OR — NeighborImpact says parents and guardians interested in Head Start for the fall need to act quickly.  Only 79 slots remain for the 2014-2015 school year. Several local communities still have slots available for children including: 

  • Redmond with 44
  • Bend with 23
  • Prineville with 8
  • La Pine with 4

NeighborImpact Head Start served 433 children this school year, providing a broad range of services in addition to classroom education.

The Deschutes Health Services Department is now an Accredited Health Department.  Deschutes County is one of 50 health departments across the national, and only the second in Oregon, to receive National Accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

An Oregon man has filed a lawsuit against Safeway and Chobani over the yogurt company's recall in September of bloated and hissing cups.  The suit, filed Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, said that Brian Hennessy suffered severe nausea, abdominal cramping and diarrhea after consuming four of the Greek-style yogurts September 3rd.  That week, Chobani started pulling yogurt.

Barnes & Noble says it wants to split its retail bookstores and Nook media business into two separate public companies as it looks to boost shareholder value.  The bookseller's stock jumped more than 8% in Wednesday premarket trading.

The Washington Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments Thursday on whether a voter-approved initiative to raise the minimum wage in SeaTac to $15 an hour should apply to workers at the airport.  Businesses and the Port of Seattle argue that the airport is run according to state and federal law, not local ordinances.  Labor groups that sponsored the initiative approved by SeaTac voters in November say one of their aims was to improve working conditions at the airport.
