North Korea Calls Seth Rogen-James Franco Comedy an Act of War

Ed Jones/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — There’s certainly a lot of drama surrounding Seth Rogen and James Franco’s upcoming comedy, The Interview.

The film, which is due out in October, centers on a TV host and producer who are recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Last week, a spokesperson for Kim claimed to the U.K. newspaper The Telegraph that a film “about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the U.S. has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine.”

Now, Kim’s regime has taken it a step further, describing The Interview as an act of war.

A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman reportedly was quoted by the state-run Korean Central News Agency as saying, “Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated.”

The spokesman further stated that if the U.S. allows the release of the film, “a merciless counter-measure will be taken.”

Rogen doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the added tension he’s apparently causing between the two countries. On Wednesday, he joked on Twitter, “People don’t usually wanna kill me for one of my movies until after they’ve paid 12 bucks for it. Hiyooooo!!!”
