This ship left port on Wednesday and is expected to take on the chemicals sometime next week. After the transfer, Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said, the ship will depart for international waters. Once in international waters, the chemicals will be neutralized using the embarked field deployable hydrolysis system.

The neutralization of the chemicals will be conducted “in a safe and environmentally sound manner.”
