Bill Clinton Lashes Out at Dick Cheney

Jason Bahr/NBC(NEW YORK) — While former Vice President Dick Cheney continues his tirade against President Obama’s handling of the crisis in Iraq, a former commander in chief is blaming Cheney for creating the conditions that might lead to the downfall of Baghdad’s democratic government.

In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press airing next Sunday, Bill Clinton said that if Cheney “hadn’t gone to war in Iraq none of this would be happening.”

Clinton went on to tell Meet the Press host David Gregory, “Mr. Cheney has been incredibly adroit for the last six years or so attacking the administration for not doing an adequate job of cleaning up the mess that he made. And I think it’s unseemly.”

However, Clinton did not go on the offensive against former President George W. Bush, who approved the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003 based on the recommendations of Cheney and other advisers.

Bush has been silent on Iraq and other controversies surrounding the Obama administration, earning Clinton’s admiration “for trying to stay out of this debate.”
