General Motors(DETROIT) — General Motors has started the recall of some 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze compact cars, which includes about 29,000 vehicles in the United States and 4,000 in Canada. Customer communications are being prepared and should go out Friday.
Earlier this week GM told dealers to stop the delivery and sale of 2013 and 2014 Cruze models because the module that makes the driver’s side airbag inflate could have been incorrectly assembled.
“We are working diligently with the supplier to identify the parts in the affected vehicles so we can resume delivery,” a GM spokesman said, according to a report from Automotive News Thursday.
The potentially faulty airbags are made by Takata, the Japanese supplier already linked to a sweeping recall of other vehicles.
The stop-delivery order is a setback for GM dealers, deprived of the top-selling car on their lots.
