iStock/Thinkstock(WIMBLEDON, England) — Pat Cash, 1987 Wimbledon champ and commentator, has some harsh words for the new, stricter clothing rules at the world’s oldest tennis tournament.
As part of a tightening of regulations in recent years, the club has implemented an “all-white” dress code.
Cash calls the rules “ridiculous,” saying the rules have gone too far. He claims some women have been forced to play without bras and were sent back to locker rooms to change because “the colors were starting to show through” after sweating.
Men are no exception, according to Cash, with players told to change their underwear if the garments aren’t entirely white.
Included in the new guidelines are rules that specify “white does not include off white or cream,” and regulations stating there should be no solid mass or panel of color, including on shoes. The same applies to medical supports and equipment, unless its absolutely necessary.
A single trim of color around players’ necklines and the cuff of sleeves is deemed “acceptable,” pending it is no wider than one centimeter.
