France Gets It Together Late to Advance to Quarterfinals

Jean Catuffe/Getty Images(BRASILIA, Brazil) — France scored two goals in the final 11 minutes of the game to upend Nigeria in the Round of 16 at the World Cup Monday.

Paul Pogba scored the first goal off of a corner in the 79th minute to get France on the board. Then, in the second minute of stoppage time, Joseph Yobo re-directed a cross from teammate Mathieu Valbuena into the back of the net to put the game out of reach for the Nigerians.

France, which did not make it out of the group stage in the last World Cup, now advances to take on Germany in the Quarterfinals.

“I have no words to describe this feeling,” Pogba said. “The whole country is behind us and scoring that goal really liberated us. I am so happy for the team and all of France.”

France’s match against Germany is Friday. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. Eastern. You can watch the action on ESPN2.
