Kelly Osbourne: 'I'm Just Not That Girl'

ABC/Richard Harbaugh(LOS ANGELES) — Kelly Osbourne has never been happier in her own skin.

The former The Osbournes star, 29, has transformed and grown up in the public eye, but as of late, she’s really come into her own and is…well, owning it.

She’s rocking a purple mohawk, just got a tattoo on the side of her head that has deep meaning and isn’t going to let “society’s perception of what a female should look like” influence her any longer.

“I believe in self-expression. I believe, you don’t have to be the girly girl, I don’t have to have long blonde hair and look like a Barbie doll. That doesn’t make me feel comfortable,” she told ABC News. “I played along for a really long time and really even tricked myself into believing that that was the kind of girl that I am. When I had to cut my hair off because it was damaged, it made me feel like I’d lost myself.”

She continued, “Once I cut it all off, I realized, I’m just not that girl.”

In fact, Osbourne, the daughter of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, admitted that in the past she spent upwards of $25,000 on hair extensions.

“I grew up on the road with my father and although I am very much a girl’s girl, I am a huge tomboy and I feel comfortable like this,” she added about her new look. “Every time another hair extension got clipped into my head, I almost felt like I was forced to be something that I’m not. Even though I liked the way that it looked, I didn’t understand why it became part of my life. It took me a while to figure that out.”

Osbourne’s also figured out that she doesn’t need a man to complete her. She split from fiance Matthew Mosshart earlier this year took a very mature approach to the breakup, saying it was a mutual decision and that it just wasn’t the right time. Osbourne is fine with where she is in life right now.

“I like being single,” she said. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be one of those girls that gets married, I know I’ll def have kids, but…”

She added that while she has rules she lives by, concepts like boundaries “scare me to death.”

In addition to her physical transformation and her enlightened personal life, Osbourne has worked hard to shake off the stigma of a celebrity kid feeding off her famous family. This couldn’t be further from the truth as Osbourne stars on E!’s Fashion Police, has a makeup collection with her mother Sharon, has a clothing line coming, a secret project and is an original Disney villain Hildy Gloom on The 7D, a new take on the Seven Dwarfs, which airs on Disney XD.

She’s kind of a workaholic.

“My dream is to make enough money that my parents never have to work again,” she said. “They deserve to relax and take some time for themselves now.”

Most girls grow up wanting to be Snow White – Not Osbourne.

“To be a Disney villain is one of the biggest and most amazing things that’s ever happened to me,” she said. “Most girls dream of one day becoming a princess, that only happened to Kate Middleton. I always wanted to be a Disney villain. I love Maleficent, that was always my favorite.'”

Why Maleficent instead of Cinderella?

“My father is Ozzy Osbourne and I was surrounded by all of that, the dark side of drama,” she added. “So, it was something I was naturally more drawn to and because she got to wear a black cape and horns and she could do magic.”

The 7D airs this summer on Disney XD, Disney Channel and Disney Junior. ABC News is owned by The Walt Disney Co.
