German Staffer Arrested on Suspicion of Spying for US

iStock/Thinkstock(BERLIN) — A German man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of spying for the United States, according to officials.

The 31-year-old German citizen was held on “urgent suspicion” of unauthorized intelligence services, the New York Times reported.

Chancellor Angela Merkel was informed of the arrest on Thursday.

The incident comes shortly after after two Americans, formerly National Security Agency workers, testified to the German government on U.S. data monitoring.
