Overpass Collapses in World Cup Host City

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil) — An overpass in Belo Horizonte, one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup, collapsed onto an active highway on Thursday.

The BBC News reports that the concrete and steel bridge was under construction when it fell onto traffic, killing two people and injuring at least a dozen more. The city is scheduled to host a World Cup semifinal match next week.

Brazil had spent over $11 billion in preparing for the World Cup, a point of criticism that spurred protests from Brazilians.
