Indianapolis Police Officer Dies After Exchanging Gunfire with Suspect

iStock/Thinkstock(INDIANAPOLIS) — Indianapolis police are investigating the shooting death of an officer Saturday night.

Perry Renn, 51, was killed after he and another officer responded to a 911 call about shots fired. Police exchanged gunfire with the suspect, Major Davis, who had been armed with an an assault rifle. Both Renn and Davis were hit.

Lt. Chris Bailey with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department says Renn was a 21-year veteran of the force.

“Officer Renn bravely went into that situation protecting the city of Indianapolis and it cost him his life,” Bailey said.

Davis is in critical but stable condition. He is facing a murder charge.
