Buzz Aldrin: Commercial Space Exploration Next Logical Step

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Astronaut Buzz Aldrin is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the historic Apollo moon landings, but thinks there is plenty more space exploration to be done.

Aldrin, 84, told ABC News he thinks commercial space travel, including Elon Musk’s Space X plan, is the next logical step in exploring space.

The space pioneer, who was the second person to set foot on the moon after Neil Armstrong, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the July 20, 1969 moment with a social media campaign asking people to send videos of how Apollo 11 inspired them.

More than half a billion people watched Armstrong become the first man to set good on the moon, proclaiming the now infamous words: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

He was joined a short time later by Aldrin, who described what he saw on the lunar surface as “magnificent desolation.”
