Two Arrested Following Drug Deal Turned Robbery

080514 Jeff.Doty080514 NewlinBEND, OR — Two men were arrested after a Monday drug deal turned into a robbery.  Investigators were called to the Mt. Bachelor Motel shortly after 6 a.m., where a man said he had been hit in the head when a metal pipe.  Bend PD says that man went to the motel to meet Jeffrey Edward Doty, 27, Bend, and Sergei Leonard Newlin, 22, to purchase drugs.  The victim said when he entered the motel room, he was assaulted, and his drugs and cash were taken.  Officers searched the motel room, found methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, scales and a pipe bomb, which was later rendered safe.

Newlin was arrested at the Mt. Bachelor, while Doty was later arrested in Redmond.  Both men were taken to the Deschutes County Jail, charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 2nd Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Theft, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Manufacture of a Destructive Device and Parole Violation.
