Rowena Fire 65% Contained

081114.Rowena.FireTHE DALLES, OR — Crews have the Rowena Fire burning near the Columbia River 65% contained.  The fire has burned 3,673 acres of timber between Rowena and The Dalles.  Firefighters reported steady progress over the weekend to extinguish remaining hotspots and smokes in several impacted communities.  In addition, the state Department of Forestry lifted the evacuation order for 740 people living in the fire area.  A small section of Highway 30 remained closed Monday morning.

The cause of the Rowena Fire remains under investigation.
