Taylor Swift Says Twerking Is 'Mind-Blowing to Me…It's So Above My Comprehension'

ABC/Lorenzo Bevilaqua(NEW YORK) — Taylor Swift’s a pretty smart woman, and she seems to be able to do everything — write, sing, play instruments, act — effortlessly.  But Taylor says there was one particular thing she tried to do recently that just left her baffled: twerking.

In her new video for her song “Shake It Off,” Taylor is seen attempting to take on various dance styles, one of which is hip-hop. She tells Rolling Stone, “We had twerking, which was so funny. Those girls were trying to teach me how, and it’s just never gonna happen. I tried really hard. They were teaching me what they do, and there’s like a science to it — they’re, like, digging their heels into the floor without you seeing their legs move, but their butt’s moving. It’s mind-blowing to me.”

“They were explaining it all to me, and it’s so above my comprehension of how to understand your body,” she adds. In the video, Swift is also seen being equally clumsy at ballet, modern dance, cheerleading and other types of movement.

“I’m putting myself in all these awkward situations where the dancers are incredible, and I’m having fun with it, but not fitting in,” she says, describing the video’s concept. “They’re doing the most beautiful things, and I’m being embarrassingly bad at it. It shows you to keep doing you, keep being you, keep trying to figure out where you fit in in the world, and eventually, you will.”

Expect Taylor to perform “Shake It Off” — the first single from her new album 1989 — on this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. Hopefully, Kanye West won’t be in the building.
