Another Bear Sighting In La Pine

La Pine, Ore. – On November 14, 2014 at approximately 7:10 pm, Ms. Wilson, a La Pine resident, living on Davis Ave, La Pine reported having a black bear on her front porch and in her driveway, eating cat food.  Field Law Enforcement Technicians from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area but were unable to locate the bear.  They did however confirm numerous fresh bear tracks in the area.

There was similar incident on the evening of October 28, 2014 when a resident of Rim Drive, La Pine also reported having a bear on her front porch and eating cat food.

Rim Drive is in the same area of rural La Pine, just a short distance southwest of this evenings sighting on Davis Ave.

This information is being provided to remind residents in this area and many similar residential areas near forest lands, that wildlife, to include bears and mountain lions may also be frequenting the area.  Pets should be secured inside where and when possible and pet food should not be left out or easily accessible to wildlife.

Many residents of Deschutes County live in places where frequent or occasional contact with wildlife is a fact of life, especially with cooler temperatures on the way.  We ask that you respect their space and not approach or feed them.  When someone suspects an animal is becoming a problem or threat to safety, report it immediately.
