Bend, Ore. – Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council is pleased to announce improved service on Route 18 Mountain Service, now serving Meissner Nordic Park. Nordic skiers can take public transit to Meissner Nordic Park on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for $9 round-trip or $5 one-way fare. Service to Meissner Nordic Park began December 1st and operates on days when trails are groomed.

In addition to the new stop, transit riders will notice an overall decrease in fare for Route 18, down from last year’s $12 round-trip and $8 one-way fares. The decrease in fare came as a result of conversations with Mt. Bachelor, a partner of Cascades East Transit who is responsible for initiating the Mountain Service route.

The process of improving Mountain Service changes was guided in part by a voluntary community survey with over 260 responses supporting the addition of the Meissner stop and by unanimous support from the Board of Directors of Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council. Prior to expanded transit, visitors to Meissner Nordic Park were only able to access the park by vehicle with a sno-park parking permit.

Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council was designated a Council of Governments in 1972 under ORS 190. COIC provides service to the counties of Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson as well as to the cities of Bend, Culver, La Pine, Madras, Metolius, Prineville, Redmond, and Sisters. Cascades East Transit, operated by COIC, runs a fixed-route service in Bend, community connector shuttles, and general public Dial-A-Ride services in Redmond, La Pine, Prineville, Sisters, and Madras.
