Junior Cyclists Get Award

Through its non-profit CXmas Junior Fund, Bowen Sports Performance is awarding $4,000 to more than a dozen junior cyclists from Oregon who are competing in the U.S. Cyclocross Nationals in Austin, Texas, January 7-11, 2015. The stipends will help the young cyclists offset the costs of traveling to nationals.
“As we prepare to send juniors from Oregon to the 2015 Cyclocross Nationals, it’s very exciting to me and the entire Bowen Sports Performance team that we are able to help more of them than ever before,” said Bart Bowen, who hosted the fourth annual CXmas Party fundraiser on December 4. “Our goal for the past four years has been to help more kids from Oregon get to higher caliber races each year, and with the help of the community we’re doing that. We’ve really seen an increase in the number of Oregon juniors racing regionally and nationally, and
they are the future of the sport.”
The fourth annual CXmas Party raised more than $3,500 through cash donations as well as a raffle and silent auction featuring donated items and services from many local, regional and national companies. Professional cyclist Chris Horner, who attended the event, donated a
signed Lampre team jersey to the auction, and addressed the large group of juniors in attendance, offering them advice and encouragement. The CXmas Junior Fund was a
beneficiary of the Ride Hard Finish Thirsty cyclocross races in September, and those funds have been added to the proceeds from the CXmas Party. More than 15 junior cyclocross racers from Oregon, including many from Central Oregon, are planning to travel to Austin in early January to compete in the national championships.
“We absolutely could not have raised this kind of money without the unflagging support of our generous sponsors,” said Bowen. “We are just the organizers of this event. The real heroes are all the people who gave their time, donated items for the auction and placed bids. We
continue to be amazed and humbled by the success of this fundraiser.”

Proud supporters of the fourth annual CXmas Party include: Abbey Bike Tools, Action Dynamix Massage, the Airgas-Safeway Cycling Team, Alex Candelario, Black Bear Diner, Chris Horner, Clif Bar, Cog Wild, Collins Cycle Shop, Cross Crusades, Crow’s Feet Commons, Deschutes Brewery, Feather’s Edge Finery, Garmin, Giant Bicycles, Hutch’s Bicycles, Innergized Movement Massage, Natural Edge Furniture, Pine Mountain Sports, Ryan Trebon, Shimano,
