Joe Robbins/Getty Images(SOUTH BEND, Ind.) — Led by guard Jerian Grant, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to rally past the Miami Hurricanes 75-70.
Now at 17-2, the Irish have equaled their best start through 19 games, matching the 1978-79 team.
Miami opened the second half with a 13-2 run to take its largest lead. The Irish offense proceeded to turn it on in the second half. Making just two of their first 16 3-point tries, Notre Dame proceeded to hit seven of their next nine 3-point attempts.
Grant led the rally as he scored 23 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the floor to go along with eight assists. Guard Pat Connaughton had a double-double in the game, scoring ten points while pulling down 11 rebounds.
Sheldon McClellan led the Hurricanes with 17 points while Ja’Quan Newton came off the bench to chip in 16 points and five assists in the loss.
Notre Dame picked up a much needed win as they now sit at third in the ACC behind Virginia and Syracuse. Miami (FL) now sits at 8th in the conference.
