Bend, Ore. – Bend Fire units responded yesterday evening to a reported residential structure fire at 21210 McGilvray Rd. Upon arrival, some smoke was found in the rear of the home in the vicinity of the woodstove. The owner (Mr. Travis Perkins) was inside with a garden hose extinguishing a fire between the ceiling and the roof of his home. Mr. Perkins exited his home while fire crews confined the fire to the living room.

The cause of the fire was improper installation of a flue adaptor flange in the ceiling. Owner will be working with a contractor to repair the damage.

The Bend Fire Department would like to remind residents, if you use a woodstove or fire place to have it inspected and cleaned annually. All new woodstoves shall be permitted and approved by the local Building Department. http://www.bendoregon.gov/index.aspx?page=1034
