One Killed, Three Injured in Friendly-Fire Incident in Iraq

Marcio Silva/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — A member of the U.S.-led coalition forces was killed and three more were wounded in a friendly fire incident in northern Iraq on Friday.

According to the coalition, the incident involved Kurdish Security Forces — known as the Peshmerga.

A U.S. official said that all four soldiers were Canadian. The Canadian Ministry of Defence provided details on the incident, saying that the soldiers “were mistaken engaged by Iraqi Kurdish forces following their return to an observation post behind the front lines.”

All four were initially wounded and taken to a coalition medical facility, where one died from wounds suffered in the incident.

The incident is under further investigation.
