(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Senior point guard T.J. McConnell filled the stat sheet with 19 points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals to help lead No. 2 Arizona past No. 10 Ohio State, 73-58, in the third round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Wildcats (33-3) were only up by one at halftime, but Gabe York scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half helping send Arizona to its third-straight Sweet 16.
Ohio State super freshman D’Angelo Russell couldn’t get his shot going against the Wildcats’ defense. Russell finished the game shooting 3 of 19 from the field, the most missed shots of his college career.
Sam Thompson had a team-high 18 points for the Buckeyes (24-11) in the loss.
Arizona advances to take on No. 6 Xavier Thursday in Los Angeles.
